Two conditions with systemic symptoms
Endometriosis and Sjögren’s disease can both be associated with fatigue, pain, inflammation, and symptoms that affect several body systems. Sjögren’s is an autoimmune disease best known for dry eyes and dry mouth, but it can also affect joints, nerves, lungs, kidneys, and other organs.
Shared symptoms do not prove a shared cause
Researchers continue to study immune dysregulation and autoimmune conditions in people with endometriosis. An association would not mean that one disease causes the other, and symptoms such as fatigue or pain are not specific enough to diagnose either condition.
When specialist review may help
Persistent dry eyes or mouth, swollen salivary glands, unexplained joint pain, neuropathy, or systemic symptoms should be discussed with a clinician. Evaluation may involve primary care, rheumatology, ophthalmology, dentistry, and gynecology.
